American Falls

The Niagara Falls is shared between Canada and USA. The section located in New York, USA is called the American Falls which has a height of approximately 70-110 feet from the top to the talus, and about 188 feet from the top of the falls to the river.

The American Falls can be viewed from both Goat Island and Luna Island, as well as at a specific angle close to the edge of the waterfalls. The large rocks at the bottom is the result of common rockfall occurrences. In 1954 the Prospect Point succumb to the currents and collapsed. Over a span of one and a half centuries of rockfall, the American Fall carries a distinct W-shaped ledge.

The Bridal Veil Falls named for its distinct appearance (but is also known as “Luna Falls” or “Iris Falls”) with a total height of 181 feet is the third and smallest section of the Niagara Falls. This part of the falls is also located on the American side. Luna Island separates this section from the larger American Falls. Both the Maid of the Mist Pool and the Cave of the Winds attractions are in this part, as well as a pedestrian bridge from Goat Island to Luna Island.
