Niagara is known for its large waterfall and many other things including its world-class wineries of which it has over 50. Niagara Icewine is one of the most popular choices due to its high quality and should not be missed. Visitors can take a wine tour, and there are two wine festivals held annually in the region, one during winter and another during autumn. Several wineries in the Niagara Escarpment includes: the Harbour Estates Winery, Legend Estates Winery, Malivorie Wine Company, Ridgepoint Wines, Rockway Glen Estate Winery, Royal DeMaria Wines, Tawse Winery Inc., EastDell Estates, Henry of Pelham Estate Winery, Magnotta Winery, Flat Rock Cellars, Cave Spring Cellars, Calamus Estate Winery, Hidden Beach Winery, and Kacaba Vineyards, to name a few.

Well-known wineries located within the Niagara-on-the-Lake area includes: Peller Estates Winery, Southbrook Vineyards, Maleta Estate Winery, Jackson-Triggs Niagara Estate, Lailey Vineyard, Mike Weir Wine, Niagara College Teaching Winery, Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery, Hillebrand Winery, The Ice House, Inniskillin Wines, Caroline Cellars, Konzelmann Estate Winery, Cattail Creek Estate Winery, Château des Charmes, Joseph’s Estate Wines, etc. Vineyards are also a great place to relax and some offer visitors musical concerts while tasting the fine traditional alcoholic beverages.

History

The Niagara River is known to have existed since the last Ice Age which is close to almost 200 centuries ago. With time, the ice melted and about 12’500 years ago ice there was no longer any ice on the Niagara Peninsula.
